This video saved me over $250. A local appliance repair service wanted $100 for a trip out, $80 per hour (1 hr min) for the actual install, $69 for the part and $14 for part shipping. Nice video. If I wanted to install a toggle switch to turn off in the spring/summer, should the switch connect to the orange lead, or does it matter?

Rich,I installed the heater kit quite easily,can't determine how well it's working so far since the outdoor temperature has warmed up and the garage temperature is a little over 50.I'm checking it several times a day to see it's operation. I am wondering what happens when the spring and summer comes, does the heater still cycle on and off?

Rich, you talked about the cold control and capillary tube being 'underneath.' Is either one underneath the added heater, or is it only routed alongside but above the heater? So nothing is under the heater except the plastic housing, in all areas, with no wires or tubes running under it? We're doing this tomorrow (Friday) so hope you see it and can respond quickly! Thanks for doing this video, it really helps. The instructions that came with the heater are really badly done. Sue Heron

I tried the kit on my Electrolux top freezer refrigerator model FFTR1513LW9, not one of the listed compliant models. It seemed to be working, the fridge kicked on but only for a few minutes but stopped prematurely. I let it run for 5 to 10 minutes more but it never continued cooling again until I deinstalled the garage kit. Was there something I could have done wrong with the install to make it turn off so soon?

How do u adjust the setting in the summer? Does the heating element have its own temp adjust or can u turn it off completely in the summer? I just put a toggle switch in that keeps the fridge light on all the time in winter. Works fine even in the coldest weather. Then I switch it back to normal in the summer. I just change a light bulb here and there.

This video is very helpful. I just want to make sure that this heater will make the top freezer work in the winter?

Great video, however I think I'm out of luck as my Kenmore 253.60509411 refrigerator does not have defrost timer but a circuit board in the location specified. Any suggestions on an alternative? I live in Raleigh, NC so winters are not bad, do you think I'll be alright without one if its not available?

I have a Frigidaire FFTR1222QB top freezer fridge in my garage. I bought this kit, undid the top thermostat area and mine looked completely different from your video. I don't have an orange or black wire connecting to the thermostat. There's one bunch of wires connected to a 6 hole pin connector (red, yellow, white, white, purple, black wires + a thicker white wire that connects to a small white rod) and another bunch connected to a 4 pin connector (white, blue, black, purple wires). Any idea how to get this thing installed to my unit? Thanks!

Hi, Great video. Will this work with a Kenmore 253.6419240D. The diagram looks the same as the one in the video. Also, my garage only gets down to about 45F but the the freezer starts thawing when the temp is at about 50F for a few days. Will the garage kit solve this? Some people have told me I need to install something to heat the compressor. If I do install this will I need to re-adjust the thermostat in the winter and summer? Thanks.

I purchased this for my garage fridge a few years ago ,it works fine , I'm trying to find out if it'll work in a Whirlpool et8chmxk005 for a friend of mine,thanks
